Take 5 with... Jamilah from Arganie Shop!
ANOTHER WEEK BEHIND US… AND OF COURSE ANOTHER WEEKEND AHEAD! HERE WE ARE, AS EVERY WEEK, WITH ANOTHER 5 MIN BREAK FOR YOU AND A SHORT INTERVIEW WITH AN INSPIRING INDIVIDUAL! THIS WEEK WE PRESENT JAMILAH FROM ARGANIE - AN ATELIER OF OILS AND NATURAL COSMETICS FROM THE VERY HEART OF THE MYSTICAL MARRAKECH!
1. Tell us a bit about yourself, where are you from, and what about Marrakech makes it special and makes you stay?
I was born and raised in a small town in Poland. Marrakech was my love from the first sight. It scared and amazed me at the same time. I love simple and slow style of living of Moroccans and artistic, mystical images that Marrakech is full of.
This city is famous for attracting artistic souls and well... I'm the one of them!
2. What's important to you, and how do these values affect your professional choices?
Family, health, spiritual development.
All those three brought me to Morocco and pushed me to challenge myself.
3. Tell us about Arganie Shop how and why did it start? Maybe you can elaborate more on the conventional cosmetics industry in Morocco?
My father-in-law got his traditional wisdom about herbs, oils, natural medicaments and cosmetics from his parents. 40 years ago, he opened his first shop in the Medina of Marrakech. His kindness, honesty and good quality products during the years made him well known in whole Medina. He opened his second shop and his sons joined him in business.
My husband and I took it to the next level. We created 'Arganie' - a shop designed for tourists. We registred our own company 'you&jam' and started our own atelier of oils (eg. argan oil, prickly pear, black seed, sesame), handmade natural cosmetics, spices and herbs. Unfortunately in Morocco is extremely hard even to buy real argan oil. Most of the products available are actually fake!
We offer best quality but in reasonable price - that's our motto.
4. Who are your personal heroes?
Hmm my personal hero is everyone who has lived their life well, explored its full potential and died in truth, awareness and peace :)
5. What other interesting projects are you working
I’m passionate about Moroccan history, its traditions and culture so naturally - when I moved here - I became a guide, from time to time, and a blogger. It's my little mission to break stereotypes about muslim society and 'reunite' people a little bit...
Peacefull co-existence of all nations is my dream!
